Aptly named after 'a place of refuge' in Sanskrit, AYANA Resort and Spa Bali is perched on limestone cliffs above the Indian Ocean near Jimbaran Bay on Bali's south-western peninsular.
This stunning resort is set on 77 hectares of lush tropical gardens above Jimbaran Bay and offers majestic views across Bali's dramatic west coast and as far as sacred Mount Agung.
The resort's secluded location is complemented by its own private white sand beach, yet is only 15 minutes from Bali's airport, making AYANA the perfect base for exploring the island’s many other wonders.
With a 290-room hotel and 78 private freestanding villas spread along its 1.3-kilometre coastline, AYANA is one of the largest luxury hotels in Bali.

There is an endless variety of accommodation options available. There are the Cliff Villas, Ocean Villas, the magnificent AYANA Villa, Resort View Rooms, Jimbaran Bay Rooms, Deluxe Ocean View Rooms, and the Ocean View Suite. The Club Floor, comprising 71 rooms and suites offers an extra level of privacy, comfort and superior service for discerning guests.
There are 38 exquisite one-bedroom Cliff Villas available, all of which are located along the cliffs just south of the main hotel and represent a 'resort within a resort'. These luxurious villas enjoy their own dedicated lobby surrounded by a lotus pond which overlooks a two-tiered, infinity-edged freshwater pool and library/recreation lounge.
The stunning Ocean Villas are located on the cliffs north of the main hotel, and comprise of both one- and two-bedroom dwellings. These villas are spacious and private and a great option for families or groups travelling together.
The impressive AYANA Villa is perched on the edge of the cliff amidst 3000 square metres of landscaped tropical gardens. It enjoys the most stunning clifftop views on the island and its very own tranquil corner of the property. This is AYANA's most lavish venue for an exclusive escape, a wedding celebration or honeymoon. The two-storey villa features three bedrooms with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, adjoining bathrooms with deluxe soaking tubs, grand shower rooms, an 11-metre infinity-edged pool with heated whirlpool, 60" plasma and floor-to-ceiling oceanfront glass doors.
All of the villas feature unrivalled ocean views, private infinity-edged plunge pools, sunbeds and a gazebo, 42" plasma TVs in the bedroom and living areas, 24-hour butler service, on-call golf buggy transport, golf-putting, tennis courts and fitness centre access, and complimentary snacks including fresh tropical fruits, tea and AYANA's signature plunger coffee. Guide to Jimbaran
The quiet fishing village of Jimbaran lies on a narrow isthmus connecting the Bukit Peninsula to the rest of Bali. Jimbaran is unique in that it borders two different coasts lying less than two kilometres apart.
The geography around Jimbaran is distinctly different to the volcanic fertile soils found elsewhere in Bali. The Bukit Peninsula is comprised of a large limestone plateau offering stunning ocean views from its cliff tops and featuring white sand beaches. On the west coast is Jimbaran Bay and the Indian Ocean while the east has the shallow and sheltered Benoa Harbour.
The region has remained sparsely inhabited due to the landscape and was at one stage a place of banishment where undesirables were sent. The Jimbaran area is a far less crowded alternative to Kuta or Legian thanks to careful planning by local authorities. The beauty of the beach has led to a number of luxury hotels being built along the shore. Budget accommodation is limited in Jimbaran, but the region is easily accessible from Nusa Dua or Kuta by taxi, bemo or bike.
The sea temple of Pura Luhur Ulu Watu is the region's most significant sight. The temple is one of several dedicated to the spirits of the sea along the south coast of Bali. Precipitously perched atop sheer limestone cliffs, the temple is certainly a dramatic sight, especially at sunset.
Sunset at Jimbaran Bay is another popular sight. A range of seafood restaurants and warungs line the beach and tourists arrive in the late afternoon to witness the brightly coloured fishing fleets prepare and depart.
An outlying reef protects the beach at Jimbaran quite well, however some of the world's best and most dangerous surf beaches are located nearby at Uluwatu and Padang Padang.
The Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (GWK) is situated overlooking the South Bali tourist region and is one of Bali's premier venues for performances, exhibitions, conferences, sightseeing and relaxation.
Jimbaran has three major temples, Pura Dalem, Pura Puseh and Pura Desa. The anniversaries of the temples occur within four days of each other. At this time of year Jimbaran is vibrant and full of ritual activities.
Although the number of tourists visiting Jimbaran is increasing, it's still a relatively tranquil haven, offering many unique sights.
